Role: Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer - £35,000 - £45,000 + Benefits
The Electrical Design Engineer will be required to support the design and implementation of low-carbon electrical systems across a variety of retrofit and energy efficiency projects. Working closely with senior engineers, the role includes developing integrating low-carbon electrical systems such as solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and building power infrastructure.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen technical knowledge, enhance project delivery capabilities, and contribute to the UK’s net-zero and decarbonisation objectives through sustainable and innovative engineering practices.
Role/Responsibilities:
· Assist with Electrical system designs across all RIBA Stages that includes the design of low-carbon energy solutions, such as power distribution, solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and smart controls for the integration of heat pumps, and other energy-efficiency measures typical of sustainable retrofit into commercial, public-sector and mixed-use buildings .
· Practical experience or a keen interest in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems and building-integrated solutions (BIPV).
· Ability to produce design drawings, schematics and calculations under supervision.
· Practical experience or keen interest in solar PV system design.
· Ability to develop load assessments, lighting design, cable calculations and equipment schedules
· Proficient in AutoCAD with willingness to develop strong Revit/BIM capability.
· Support coordination of BIM and CAD-based design processes.
The ideal candidate:
· 2 years+ experience in electrical building services design.
· Exposure to retrofit, decarbonisation, or low-carbon projects preferred.
· Previous participation in multidisciplinary project teams.
· Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng or equivalent).
· Competent with BIM/CAD tools and energy modelling software.
· Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with CIBSE or IMechE.
