We know how important finding the right team is.
We’ve been growing our own since 2016 when our founding directors opened their first broom cupboard office on East London’s Brick Lane. What started with three people on their laptops has grown into a top firm matching passionate construction professionals with London and the South East’s most prestigious projects.
Over the years, our square footage and numbers have grown steadily, but our mission remains the same – making valuable, long-term construction placements based on deep industry knowledge and personal networks.
With the business gaining momentum and satisfied return clients, they moved into a slightly larger office. This time with windows. To add to their newfound legitimacy, they hired their first paid employees, and launched their Main Contracting and Residential Developers division.
Although the square footage of the business increased, its values and personal touch remained the same. The founders learned to balance a desire to stay humble with the urge for bold success and building a brand that would last.
The business experienced furhter growth in its fourth year. During this period the company launch a 'Recruitment Academy' aimed at developing entry-level employees to grow the next generation of consutlants.
The customer base grew exponentially while the ethos, values, and quality of services never faltered. That year, the founders were finally able to hang up their ill-fitting accounting hats and hired a true pro in Financial Controller John Lynch, who they credit with their solid financial grounding today.
The Brick Lane broom cupboard had truly evolved into a high-functioning business with a tidy back-of-house that matched its front-of-house reputation and quality.
The 'Recrutiment Academy' proved a success and the entry-level staff developed into autonomous Associates managing their own client portfolios and building their own industry networks within their specialist sectors. Pat Rourke also joined as a seasoned Associate developing business in the MEP sector.
With further investment into a new office and website, their position in the industry is miles away from that messy barside birth in 2016, while their physical position is, well, just upstairs from that old broom cupboard.
After going through a hard labour in a Farringdon public house one evening, three maverick recruiters welcomed a healthy master business plan. Born from a desire to disrupt the world of construction recruitment based on their own observances of where the industry fell short, they began to grow a unique brand aligned with their values, aspirations and idealistic millennial daydreams that they were sure they could turn into reality.
With visions of glamorous start-up offices filled with bean bags, beer fridges and widescreen TVs, they secured a loan and fired up three over-specced Macs to format CVs and fire off endless emails.
As dreamers do, they embraced a salary- and security-free lifestyle spent mainly in a windowless broom cupboard office in the heart of Brick Lane. There, they set out to deliver first-class service and build a reputation for quality.
No bean bags yet, but sticking to their values paid off and they were able to double their office square footage as well as their headcount. Resistant to leaving their stellar landlords and beloved neighbourhood, they chose a larger space in the same Brick Lane building.
The additional space allowed for a breakout room and company dartboard that was thoroughly enjoyed during breaks and end-of-week wrap-ups. A company culture was forming.
Around this time, Andy Green joined the business as a Principal Associate to expand its presence in the refurb and fit-out sectors, which are key markets for MTS&S today.
Not much else to say here, really.
Other than the team doubled down and used this period to expand into high growth markets including Pharmaceutical and Data Centre sectors.
