Mechanical Project Manager
Salary: £65k/year - £75k/year Temporary London

Job Title: Mechanical Project Manager (Commercial Fit-Outs)

Location: London (with site-based presence across the capital)

Reporting To: Contracts Manager

Company Overview

Our client is a dynamic, growth-oriented MEP Design & Build specialist based in London, delivering turnkey mechanical and electrical services primarily on commercial fit-outs, retail projects, and critical facility schemes. With project values typically ranging from £1 million to £4 million and a growing portfolio of repeat business, the company offers the agility of a specialist contractor combined with the systems and controls of a larger organisation.

Role Purpose

As Mechanical Project Manager, you will lead and deliver mechanical elements of commercial fit-out projects (shell & core, CAT A/B, occupied refurbishments) from tender stage through to completion. Working collaboratively with internal design, procurement, and site teams, you will ensure projects are delivered on-time, to budget, and to the highest standard of quality, safety and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical scope (plant, HVAC, air-handling, ventilation, chilled/heating systems) on multiple fit-out schemes (£1 M-£4 M) concurrently.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle: feasibility/tender support → design coordination → procurement → construction supervision → commissioning/handover.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes, budgets, risk registers and resource plans, ensuring clear visibility of deliverables.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers for mechanical works: scope definition, appointment, performance monitoring, and quality control.
  • Interface with MEP design and electrical teams to ensure integrated delivery, and coordinate with other disciplines and main contractors/developers.
  • Provide regular progress reports (weekly or as required) to the Contracts Director, highlighting cost status, change control and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health & safety, quality management systems, BIM/CAD modelling requirements, and client governance protocols.
  • Attend client, design team and main contractor meetings, representing the mechanical delivery team and maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, value engineering and best-practice mechanical installation.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 - 5years’ project management experience within mechanical (MEP) fit-out or refurbishment projects (commercial)
  • Proven track record delivering mechanical packages with value in the £1 million to £4 million range.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building services (chilled/heating, ventilation, AHUs, BMS elements) and their installation in fit-out/occupied environments.
  • Excellent contract management and commercial awareness: ability to manage budgets, change control, risk and value engineering.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers, with good command of procurement and site supervision.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, progress reporting, and stakeholder engagement (clients, designers, main contractors).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; professional and influential at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Qualification: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering, related discipline or trade qualified as Pipefitter / Plumber with proven management experience.

Why Join

  • Join a specialist MEP contractor with a strong London footprint, delivering high-profile fit-out projects and growing rapidly.
  • Diverse and engaging project portfolio (£1 M-£4 M fit-outs) across commercial, mixed-use and refurbishment sectors.
  • Opportunity to operate with autonomy, lead your own mechanical project delivery team and influence project outcomes.
  • Supportive senior leadership and collaborative culture: “big company systems, small-company agility”.
  • Competitive salary and bonus structure, career progression for high-performers, and a focus on quality, innovation and client excellence.
