Overview
An established, London-based main contractor with a strong pipeline of industrial and commercial projects is seeking a Design Manager to join their growing team. With an annual turnover in excess of £60m and continued year-on-year growth, this contractor delivers a diverse range of design & build, refurbishment, and new build schemes across the South East.
Sectors include:
- Light industrial and warehouse developments
- Commercial and design & build projects
- Hotel and leisure schemes
- Fit-out and refurbishment works
- New build residential projects
The Role
The successful candidate will take the lead on a major new build industrial project (circa £20m) located in South West London, working closely with the Project Director and wider delivery team. You’ll be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, coordinating consultants, subcontractors, and client teams to ensure design intent, buildability, and programme requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design process across all project stages
- Coordinate between internal teams, external consultants, and clients
- Ensure design information is delivered to programme and budget
- Provide technical input during procurement and construction phases
- Support value engineering and ensure compliance with relevant standards
- Review drawings, manage design meetings, and maintain documentation
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contracting environment
- Strong background in industrial, commercial, or mixed-use projects
- Good understanding of design & build processes
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders effectively
