Role Purpose
The Estimator / Senior Estimator will produce accurate, competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects. The role supports business growth by helping secure new work, mitigating risk, and ensuring bids meet commercial and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions, including Bills of Quantities, elemental cost plans, and subcontractor pricing.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and other tender documentation to identify scope, risks, and cost drivers.
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and negotiate rates.
- Maintain a database of unit rates, historical data, subcontractor rates, and cost benchmarks.
- Prepare tender documentation, clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions; produce risk registers and contingency plans.
- Collaborate with project management, design, and commercial teams to align cost proposals with project deliverables.
- Present and justify estimates internally and to clients.
- Monitor tender progress and coordinate internal resources to meet deadlines.
- Support post-tender activities, including contract negotiations, bid debriefs, and estimate revisions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.
- Mentor junior estimators or assistants (for Senior Estimator positions).
Requirements / Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator in commercial construction, ideally fit-out or refurbishment.
- Strong understanding of fit-out works, including Cat A and Cat B projects, and MEP trades.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced tendering environment.
- Risk-aware with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent is desirable.
