Company Overview:
An established and reputable principal contractor is seeking a Senior Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team. Operating across London and the South East, the company specialises in high-quality refurbishment, fit-out, and new build projects across commercial, residential, education, and public sectors. With a strong track record of delivering schemes from £1m to £30m, the business is known for its professionalism, attention to detail, and collaborative approach.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be a commercially driven and experienced construction estimator, confident in preparing accurate cost plans and tenders for complex refurbishment and fit-out projects. You’ll be working closely with the Pre-Construction Director, supply chain, and wider internal teams to support the business in securing new work and maintaining its strong presence in the London market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates from early-stage feasibility through to full tender submissions.
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to fully understand the scope of works.
- Attend site visits and conduct pre-tender assessments as required.
- Source and assess subcontractor quotations, ensuring competitive pricing and full coverage of scope.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Commercial, Planning, and Design Management teams.
- Participate in value engineering exercises and risk reviews.
- Contribute to bid strategies and presentations for negotiated and competitive tenders.
- Assist in handover to project delivery teams, ensuring a smooth transition.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar role within a main contracting environment.
- Strong background in estimating refurbishment and fit-out projects in London and the South East.
- Excellent technical knowledge of construction methods and contract types.
- Proficient with estimating software (e.g., ConQuest, Causeway, Excel).
- Highly numerate with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines under pressure.
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
