Client: Established in 1931 Phoenix ME is recognised as a market leading mechanical and electrical contractor throughout London and south east. With a specialism in commercial office and datacentres projects, they also work in public, retail, health, education, leisure, residential and pharmaceutical sectors. Their experience ranges from small work contracts circa £500k to major projects in excess of £40M. In addition to Phoenix’s London business unit they have an extensive datacentre division operating internationally.

Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager – Salary £50,000 – 70,000 + £5,000 Car Allowance + Full Travel Expenses + Pension (4%/8%) + Private healthcare + Bonus (up to 20% of salary)
Role: Based on a major project the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a £4-20M project depending on size and complexity. Reporting to a project director the position will be supported by a team of construction managers and supervisors. Projects are typically commercial office, high education projects, laboratories, infrastructure upgrades or datacentres. You will be expected to take the project from pre construction through to handover. Relationship management, team coordination and project reporting are key to this position.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Tender review/validation
- Design Management (reviewing design liaising with client, main contractor and consultants)
- Procurement of subcontractors, kit and plant
- Technical submittals
- RFIs – Liaison with client team, main contractor and sub contractors
- Value Engineering where applicable
- Programming of works – using MS Project or Asta project
- Health & Safety management (RAMs)
- Commercial Responsibility, assisting with sub contractor variation accounts working alongside project specific Quantity Survey.
- Management of variations
- Team Coordination (overseeing junior engineers, construction managers and supervisors)
- Progress meetings with sub contractors, client and internal meetings
- Overseeing commissioning stages
- Formulation of OM Manuals and client handover
The ideal candidate:
- Will be familiar working in a fast pace environment
- Experience working in the commercial sector
- Experience managing projects to a minimum of £4M within your own discipline
- A minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role
- Ideally the candidate will have subcontracted to main contractors such as ISg, Lend Lease, Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace.
- The candidate will show longevity in previous employment
