Commissioning Manager
Salary: £100k/year - £120k/year Permanent Blyth

We are currently seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to join a growing project delivery team on a major mission-critical construction project.

Project:

New Build Data Centre - 1 Gigawatt - Northumberland

Salary:

£100,000 - £120,000 + Package

Reporting to the Commissioning Lead, the successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities across complex Mechanical and Electrical systems. This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise, stakeholder management, and programme delivery experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage commissioning engineers and specialist vendors throughout the commissioning lifecycle.
  • Develop commissioning scopes, strategies, and execution plans aligned with project objectives.
  • Monitor commissioning progress against key milestones, identifying and mitigating risks to programme delivery.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across multiple stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, vendors, and client representatives.
  • Support design reviews and ensure commissioning requirements are incorporated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and track commissioning programmes, sequencing, reporting, and handover activities.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, commissioning procedures, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Factory Witness Tests (FWTs), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and associated commissioning activities.
  • Oversee commissioning activities for both contractor-supplied and client-supplied systems.
  • Chair and participate in commissioning meetings, providing regular progress updates and technical guidance.
  • Work closely with QA/QC teams to ensure quality standards are achieved and documented.
  • Manage the preparation, review, and approval of commissioning documentation, including test procedures, method statements, reports, and final handover records.
  • Ensure successful completion of all commissioning phases through to client acceptance and project handover.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, substantial experience in a Commissioning Management role on large-scale construction or mission-critical projects.
  • Mechanical or Electrical bias considered, with a strong understanding of both disciplines.
  • Proven experience delivering commissioning activities within data centres, critical infrastructure, pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial, or other technically complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning methodologies, integrated systems testing, and project handover processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements associated with commissioning activities.
