Michael Taylor Search & Selection partnered with Phoenix ME (PME) to source specialist personnel to construct the European HQ for a leading pharmaceutical company. This was a highly complex project consisting of a discovery laboratory building with over 20,000 sqm of lab space, and room for 2,000 scientists to work.
The eye-catching building was to be outfitted with advanced robotics, high-throughput screening, and artificial intelligence technology to support the development of next-generation medicine. Its design features included ground-source heat pumps and rainwater harvesting – making it the most sustainable drug R&D centre.
Phoenix ME was appointed to manage the coordination of the Mechanical and Electrical Systems. The installation incorporated the instalment of specialist services such as medical gases, various pipe services, ductwork, sprinkler systems, drainage, BMS, fire alarms, HV substations, and associated electrical services feeding the main building. In addition, the main building needed to be supplied by a separate energy centre positioned several hundred feet away and connected to the main building by an underground tunnel.
The location and technical nature of the project meant sourcing specialist staff to support the core Phoenix ME team. As a result, MTS&S was engaged early to identify candidates in several different areas, including Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering / Design Management, and Commissioning Management.
The search involved identifying individuals with pharma experience that could work as part of a large multidisciplinary team. Throughout the project, MTS&S placed over 15 specialist candidates.
Colin Mint, Director of Operations at Phoenix ME, commented: “MTS&S worked in close partnership with myself and the rest of the team to resource specialist staff. Their expertise and industry-specific relationships enabled us to identify, map out and secure key talent within the local area.
MTS&S’s straightforward and transparent approach to recruitment made communication easy and helped develop a long-term partnership, aiding in the successful delivery of the project.
“I would have no problem recommending their team to any contractor working within this space.”
