Volunteering with The Felix Project
27/02/2024 Blog By Cassie Britton

Last Friday the MTS team had the pleasure of volunteering with The Felix Project, a charity that helps feed local communities in London by rescuing surplus food from the food industry that can no longer be sold, turning the food into nutritional and healthy meals that are then delivered to over 1,000 frontline charities and schools.

They put us to good use while there, with half the team sorting and organising through food that has been rescued and the other half in the kitchen, prepping the rescued food that is cooked into healthy meals, then packing the meals, where a total of 1,822 meals were packaged that morning, ready to be distributed later on.

What a great experience to be part of, and truly eye-opening to see just a percentage of food that is being wasted - a fantastic concept to help reduce the amount of food waste and to tackle the concerning levels of food poverty 👏🏼

For anyone that isnt aware of the Felix Project, they collect or receive food from over 539 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis. They then sort the food, produce over 4,000 healthy meals a day and then deliver the food to front-line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. That way, food that would have gone to waste is reaching vulnerable people, homeless, people with mental health or those who simply cannot afford to buy regular, healthy food.

If you want to understand more about the Felix Project or interested in volunteering, then head over to their website, here.

Thanks Felix Project for having us and look forward to coming back again soon 🌟
